Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Workly collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use our freelancer marketplace.

Last updated: July 14, 2026

1. Who we are

Workly (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates an online marketplace that connects clients and freelancers for hiring, contracting, messaging, escrow payments, and related platform services.

This policy applies to visitors, registered users, and anyone who interacts with Workly websites, apps, or related services.

For privacy questions, contact us through the Contact page or the support channels shown in your Workly account.

2. Information we collect

Account information: name, email address, password or authentication identifiers, role (client or freelancer), country or regional preferences, and profile details you choose to provide.

Client information: company or hiring details, job posts, briefs, contracts, invoices, billing preferences, and messages exchanged with freelancers.

Freelancer information: professional profile, skills, portfolio, proposals, rates, availability, work product shared on contracts, payout method details, and earnings history.

Payment and escrow information: transaction amounts, currencies, payment status, wallet activity, withdrawal requests, payout destinations (such as bank or mobile-money details you submit), and references from payment providers. We do not store full card numbers on Workly servers.

Usage and technical data: IP address, device and browser type, approximate location derived from IP, pages viewed, feature usage, log data, and security events needed to operate and protect the platform.

Support and communications: messages you send to Workly support, feedback, dispute materials, and records related to trust-and-safety reviews.

3. How we use information

To create and manage accounts, authenticate users, and personalize marketplace experiences.

To enable hiring workflows: job posts, proposals, contracts, milestones, messaging, reviews, and delivery of work.

To process payments, hold and release escrow funds, credit wallets, handle withdrawals, and record financial activity required for marketplace operations.

To detect fraud, prevent abuse, enforce platform rules, investigate disputes, and maintain trust and safety.

To send transactional notices such as contract updates, payment confirmations, security alerts, and support responses.

To improve reliability, performance, product features, and customer support, including aggregated analytics where appropriate.

To meet legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations.

4. Accounts, clients, and freelancers

When you register, we process account data needed to identify you, assign a role, and secure access to your dashboard.

Clients may share hiring and business information needed to post jobs, fund escrow, approve work, and manage contracts.

Freelancers may share professional and payout information needed to bid on work, deliver services, receive payments, and request withdrawals.

Profile information you make public (for example a freelancer portfolio or company hiring page) may be visible to other users and visitors according to your settings and marketplace pages.

5. Payments, wallets, and escrow

Workly uses third-party payment processors (such as Paystack, depending on region and configuration) to collect funds, process checkout, and pay out withdrawals.

Escrow and wallet records—amounts held, released, refunded, or withdrawn—are stored to complete contracts, reconcile balances, and resolve payment issues.

Payment providers may independently collect identity or banking information required by their own compliance programs. Their privacy policies govern that processing.

Feature purchases and monetization payments are processed separately from client–freelancer escrow balances and are treated as Workly platform revenue transactions.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, protect sessions, remember preferences, and measure site performance.

Necessary cookies support authentication, security, and core marketplace functions.

Optional analytics cookies, where enabled, help us understand usage. You can manage preferences via the cookie banner and browser settings.

For more detail, see our Cookie Policy.

7. Sharing of information

We share information with other users only as needed for marketplace activity you participate in (for example, a client sees a freelancer’s proposal; both parties see shared contract messages).

We use service providers for hosting, databases, email delivery, analytics (if enabled), customer support tooling, and payment processing under appropriate contractual safeguards.

We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the platform.

If Workly is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer, information may be transferred as part of that transaction subject to continued privacy protections.

8. Data protection and security

We implement administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, and role-based permissions.

Marketplace data is stored with security controls appropriate to production systems, including database policies that restrict access by user role where applicable.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You are responsible for protecting your account credentials and for using strong, unique passwords.

If we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal data, we will take steps consistent with applicable law, which may include notifying affected users or regulators when required.

9. Retention

We retain account and marketplace data while your account remains active and for as long as needed to provide services.

Contract, payment, escrow, dispute, and tax-related records may be retained longer where required for legal, accounting, fraud prevention, or regulatory purposes.

When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it in accordance with our retention practices and technical constraints.

10. Your rights and choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or export personal data, and to object to certain processing.

You may update many account details directly in Settings. You may also request assistance through Contact or support channels.

You may withdraw cookie consent for optional analytics where offered, and you may unsubscribe from non-essential marketing communications if you receive them.

We will respond to verifiable requests within applicable legal timeframes. Some requests may be limited where we must retain data for contracts, payments, or compliance.

11. International users

Workly may process and store information in countries other than where you live. Where we do so, we take steps intended to provide appropriate protections consistent with this policy and applicable law.

12. Children

Workly is not directed to children under 16 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us so we can take appropriate action.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change when we do.

Material changes may also be communicated through the platform or by email when appropriate. Continued use after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.

14. Contact

For privacy inquiries, data requests, or questions about this policy, use the Contact page on Workly or the support options available in your account.
